" the LW has nothing to match the allied fighters above 25k."

Moot point because the LW fighter are more than a match for the bombers which is what the LW will be looking for to kill.  If the LW gets involved in a dogfight of any kind then the saying that "it's the pilot, not the plane" is proved out once again- even in an online game. It means the LW pilot(s) was a dweeb of enormous proportion.

The LW pilot just needs to make one pass, get just one kill and they have succeeded while the Allied "pilots" have failed.  It's a veritable "rout" if the LW is permitted to re-assemble for a rinse-and-repeat after that first pass.

If I were LW I'd love to be in the group that runs into a flight of Allied fighter who are slobbering for a dogfight.  Because my goal would be half way achieved and the enemy more than happy to give me the remainder with no effort.

I, personally, disagree with "it's the pilot, not the plane"... Put 1 pilot in a mig17 and another in an f-22 with 100-mile stand-off high-tech missiles.

You tell me where the skill comes into play :D

However, the outcome won't be entirely decided by the aircraft in use. It will be squad-level tactics, wingmen, timing, events, and location location location!

That, more than the plane type, will determine the outcome.

My $0.02

P.S. I would have liked the 152 only because I like that ride, but I can live without it!

Krusty that's an abysmal analogy.  It's as simple as this - a stupid pilot in the best plane cannot match a smart pilot in an inferior one. You're wrong but that is ok. diff of opinion and all.  It is the stuff scenario AAR's are made of however. Someone gets to brag, some will whine and a few will learn.

Fair enough description, but not a complete one.

You're wrong in that 2 equal pilots in different planes will show that the plane does matter.

The converse (your point) is also true, but cannot be made a rule because it is not always true.

Sure a stupid pilot in a good plane isn't as good as a good pilot in a good plane....

But a stupid pilot in a good plane has much more leeway for mistakes than a good pilot in a bad plane.

And with equal pilots (bad or good) the plane itself can dictate the victor, if (for example) a spit16 goes up against a 190a8.

I disagree only with the way the statement "it's the pilot, not the plane" is given as a universal law. It is not constant, and does in fact fluctuate.

However, this small aside should reinforce to forum-goers that the plane choice in this scenario is not going to be a problem, as long as we give the right orders at the right time to the right units, the job will get done.

Some interesting stuff in there. Looks like it should be a fun one. Thinking I may have try for a LW spot- hitting the buffs and getting out alive should be a real white knuckle run.

My use of that phrase was indeed an over generalization. We're essentially on the same page imo Krusty.

Happy hunting and good luck in October.   (weekend frames again... :(  )

Last AH scenario I recall fully participating in was "Bigweek" back in Nov-Dec, 2001.  I hurled umpteen tasty 30mm spuds at Allied bombers for the Fatherland and my recollection of the outcome was it was so one sided that "slaughter" would be too kind a word to use. :)

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.
